Healthy Working Whilst at Home
So, with classes paused for the time being, we thought we would let you have some tips for staying active which will help you with your health and wellbeing whilst working from home.
Each morning take some time to stretch and warm up your muscles. The perfect time to start is when you get out of bed, this will help with your posture and give you a small boost to avoid you slumping straight on the sofa or in front of your computer.
Your days could start to merge into one, and on some days productivity may not be at the top of your list. You should plan and create a daily routine that includes exercise – even just light stretching will help focus your mind.
Workstation and Environment
Find a space away from your main home living area if possible. If you have children, then working around a main table could help manage the juggle between home schooling and work. Make sure you have a supportive chair and get up regularly to take short breaks.
Regular Breaks and Exercise
You should try and get up and stretch your legs every half an hour; walk around your house or garden, climb up and down your stairs if you have them. Anything to get you moving, make you feel active and keep you focused.
Move your phone out of the way so you are less tempted to scroll, stop reading social media, change the radio to some of your favourite music to give you a boost and avoid the distraction of the news.
This is something that we are not able to currently participate in physically, but video calling a friend or colleague using Whatsapp, Zoom or Skype over lunch is a great way of feeling like you have had your lunch break with a friend without them being in the room.
We all reach for comfort food every now and then. Try not to make this now. Sugar can cause you to have energy slumps in your day which will not help with productivity. Try to eat healthy small portions often, otherwise you will be reaching for that emergency chocolate bar.
We hope these small tips help, remember relax and take care of yourself.
